Our mission

Venous thromboembolism (VTE), including catheter-related thrombosis (CRT), affects a significant proportion of cancer patients and represents a critical challenge in oncology care. The International Initiative on Thrombosis and Cancer-Continuing Medical Education (ITAC-CME) is dedicated to improving health outcomes and quality of life for patients with solid tumors and hematologic malignancies while reducing the substantial economic burden that cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT) places on healthcare systems worldwide.

Founded in 2013 as the international branch of the Groupe Francophone Thrombose et Cancer (GFTC), a French not-for-profit clinical research organization, ITAC-CME addresses this critical need by bridging the gap between research and clinical practice.

We fulfill our mission by developing and disseminating evidence-based educational initiatives for physicians, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals around the world. Our educational programs are grounded in rigorous clinical practice guidelines for the treatment and prophylaxis of VTE in cancer patients, including those published by ITAC-CME. To ensure accessibility at the point of care, we have created a free interactive guideline app available for iOS and Android devices in five languages: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian.

Through education, collaboration, and innovation, ITAC-CME strives to ensure that every cancer patient receives optimal thrombosis prevention and management, regardless of where they are treated.
