Who we are
The International Initiative on Thrombosis and Cancer-Continuing Medical Education (ITAC-CME), founded in 2013, is the international section of the Groupe Francophone Thrombose Cancer (GFTC), a French not-for-profit clinical research organization. ITAC-CME is committed to optimizing care for patients with cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT) and reducing its substantial economic burden on healthcare systems worldwide.
The organization brings together more than 120 multidisciplinary experts from around the world, including internationally recognized key opinion leaders in oncology, hematology, and thrombosis. Through an appointed international steering committee and advisory board, ITAC-CME develops and disseminates evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for the treatment and prophylaxis of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in cancer patients. The most recent update was published in The Lancet Oncology on July, 2022.
These guidelines are available through a free, user-friendly mobile app in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian on both iOS (iTunes App Store) and Android (Google Play) platforms. The app provides a practical, step-by-step guide to assist clinicians in delivering optimal CAT management at the point of care.
In collaboration with the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), ITAC-CME has developed an interactive educational program for hematologists, medical oncologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, oncology pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals involved in VTE prevention and treatment in cancer patients. This program is freely accessible on the ISTH Academy website.
